I swear I’m going to do it

Teenagers get crazy ideas that seem like the absolute best idea in the whole world but follow through is not necessarily the strong point.  Well, some adults do too but it’s prime time during the teen years to make elaborate plans and then not really be able to figure out how to keep it going.  Step-daughter and buddy child had some great ideas when they were both living here.  Each time I did my duty and showed my support but you know, I pretty much figured that it was a lost cause.

At one point they were on a quest to figure out how to take care of themselves and were going to start a healthy living campaign.  I think they were still smoking pot every day so I kind of wonder about the wisdom behind their great ideas since you know, choosing to quit smoking dope every day would have probably achieved that end much quicker.

There were numerous plans to clean the bedroom on a schedule.  You know, a little bit every day so that it would always be clean.  That didn’t last a single day.

Then there was their homework plan.  You know, doing it every day at a designated time.  Yeah, not even a single day there either.

Their most successful healthy living plan was buying a yoga mat each and a yoga video.  They lasted three days in a row!  That one was a record.  After three days, the yoga disc mysteriously vanished.  I figure one of the girls got fed up and put it somewhere out of reach.

Then they tried to meditate.  Once.  Buddy-child lasted five minutes.  Step-daughter, not even that long.  I told buddy that meant she was better at making her head empty of all thought that step-daughter.

My favourite was their jogging plan.  They decided that getting up at 5 am every day during the week and going jogging before school was a good idea.  Seriously?  These two couldn’t even make it out on time for the bus and spent tons of money on cabs after missing their pick up time.  They actually did go jogging one morning.  They got up at 5, jogged around the block, came back and got ready for school.  The next morning – nothing.

Good intentions and all but follow through is not their strong point.  Let’s hope they get better as they get older.

I was always good at starting the habits but not necessarily good at continuing them over the long haul. But my enthusiasm was usually good for several weeks!

These two were good for about a day for most things. Luckily, buddy seems to be learning a bit of staying power as she gets older!
